Mrs. Miniver
with Walter Pidgeon
Released June 4, 1942
Directed by William Wyler, produced by Sidney Franklin, based on the book by Jan Struther.
Cast - Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon, Teresa Wright, Richard Ney, Dame May Whitty, Reginald Owen, Henry Travers.
Synopsis: The effect of World War II on a middle class English family.
Comments: A much loved film that also served as a powerful piece of propaganda during the war. Greer, who was offered the role after Norma Shearer turned it down, initially balked at playing the mother to a college age son but Wyler and Franklin were adamant that she do it. She won the Academy Award for her performance and it is the role that she is best remembered for.
