Mrs. Parkington
Released October 12, 1944
Directed by Tay Garnett, produced by Leon Gordon, based on the book by Louis Bromfield.
Cast - Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon, Agnes Moorehead, Cecil Kellaway, Edward Arnold, Gladys Cooper, Dan Duryea.
Synopsis: A former maid marries a miner who becomes wealthy and she makes her way up in society.
Comments: Garson did not want to play another matriarch but the studio tricked her into doing it by offering her The Valley of Decision, a role that she coveted. She appeared as a brunette and her character spanned the years from 18 to 84. The role earned her a fifth Oscar nomination (the award went to Ingrid Bergman for Gaslight.)
